‘African Violet’ screening at St. Louis filmfest

Iranian feature ‘African Violet’ is being screened at the Whitaker St. Louis International Film Festival (SLIFF) in the US.

The movie directed by Mona Zandi-Haqiqi, is one of Iran’s representatives at the event currently underway online.

The 93-minute film is a compassionate drama of strength and reunion about Shokouh, a woman who finds out that her ex-husband, Fereydoun, has been placed in a nursing home by their children.

She and her new husband, who used to be her ex-husband's friend, make an unconventional decision to take care of Fereydoun in their own home.

Bringing Fereydoun to their home causes some troubles which leads the family to new adventures and revelations on their bonds.

The film stars Fatemeh Motamed-Arya, Saeed Aqakhani, Reza Babak, Mehdi Hosseininia, Roya Javidnia, and Neda Jebraeeli.

‘African Violet’ has gone on screen at several global events, including the second MSP Iranian Film Festival in the US, the 25th Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinema in France, and the 2019 Edinburgh Iranian Festival in Scotland.

It won the special jury award at the 2019 Tripoli Film Festival in Lebanon.

The SLIFF defines its mission as a showcase of the best international works and helping the audience to discover something about themselves by learning about various cultures and perspectives.

According to the festival’s official website, “Because of the seriousness of the ongoing world health crisis, the 29th Annual Whitaker St. Louis International Film Festival will be held virtually this year.”

The 2020 SLIFF is currently underway online from Nov. 5-22.
